Academic Philosophy
Welcome to Academics at Journey School of Costa Rica. Our school utilizes a project-based, student-led curriculum, and offers individualized lesson plans as well as group project opportunities. We offer ample opportunities for student leadership as well as honors, AP and college level classes.
US accredited, Journey School of Costa Rica’s central tenants continue to be kindness, empathy, compassion and academic excellence. We work closely with Cognia, MEP, REGGIO Children and Conscious Discipline. At Journey School of Costa Rica, we have over 100 students with a maximum capacity of 150 students to always maintain a low student to teacher ratio.

An online academics program for distance learners!
A live program with teacher guidance in real time,
Journey School of Costa Rica’s Online Academics Program utilizes PBL Methods with a focus on community.
Through various online platforms and virtual resources,
Journey School of Costa Rica has taken the interactive benefits of small class sizes to the Internet while maintaining the Gold Standard for Project Based Learning.

Using project-based learning as our main
teaching approach, our teachers provide
opportunity for discovery and learning; and
encourage active exploration and investigation;
The “Gold Standard” is a comprehensive,
research-informed model for PBL to help teachers,
schools and organizations measure, calibrate
and improve their practice.

REGGIO EMILIA
Reggio Emilia is a preschool and primary educational philosophy used in Journey School of Costa Rica’s preschool
and early education classrooms.
Our Team of Teachers provide the opportunity for
discovery by encouraging active investigation.
We promote questioning while guiding
and facilitating growth and development.

INSPIRING ELECTIVES
Beginning in lower elementary, our students
have choice in selecting inspiring, place-based
electives such as cooking, skateboarding and
veterinary science in their weekly schedules.
Through daily morning circles and weekly advisory
periods, students in our Academics Program learn
tenants of community and communication.
